Nutti's muses

The Wednesday Wars

The Wednesday Wars - Gary D. Schmidt This was a great historical fiction book for people who don't like historical fiction. The year is 1967 the place Long Island New York. Holling is the only 7th grader not Jewish or Catholic so he stays behind on Wednesday afternoons while his classmates go to religious education. After a few months his teacher who doesn't quite know what to do with him has him start reading Shakespeare. The story is broken down into months so we get the highlights of the crazy and traumatic year 1967 was.
